In order for cadets to progress in the Air Training Corps,
it is vital they learn how certain things work. Part of the
ATC’s compulsory training is that cadets attain different
levels in our academic qualifications, which is also required
to participate in many cadet activities. For instance, to
fly or glide the cadet must have passed a certain subject
at 1st Class level, or to go on an overseas camp the cadet
must have their Leading qualification.

Duration: 4-6 Months.
When a cadet joins the squadron they automatically
become a Second Class Cadet. Over about 4-6 months
they are trained on various subjects and must pass
an exam. Subjects include: The Airfield, Map Reading,
The ATC, The RAF, The Rifle, First Aid and others.
Once a cadet has passed they will be awarded with
a badge and certificate. They will now be eligible
for flying and gliding, annual camps and certain squadron
run courses. |

Duration: 6 Months.
First Class cadets can train to achieve the Leading
Cadet Classification. At this stage the subjects become
more technical. The 344 (Fulham) Squadron leading training
program includes: Aircraft Knowledge, Basic Navigation
and Principles Of Flight.
After achieving the Leading Cadet Classification,
cadets are now qualified to attend a gliding course,
overseas camps and are eligible for promotion to the
rank of Cadet Corporal. |

Duration: 6 Months.
Leading Cadets move onto extend their aeronautical
studies by studying the Senior Cadet Classification
training program. On this course they move on to an
even higher technical program with the topics Propulsion
and Airmanship.
After passing the Senior Cadet exam cadets are now
eligible for the Rank of Cadet Sergeant or Flight Sergeant. |

Duration: 6 Months.
To become a Staff Cadet, cadets must be over the age
of 15 years and 6 months. Yet again the standards of
technical training are raised and include the topics
Aircraft Operations and Airframes. Cadets are also
required to pass an interview with a Squadron Leader
who will come to the unit to assess the cadets ability
on being an active member of staff. Cadets will be
tested on their knowledge of the ATC and how it is
run, their knowledge of their own squadron and will
also be observed whilst teaching a class.
After passing the Staff Cadet Classification cadets
are now able to join a Gliding School and act as a
junior member of staff and be promoted to the rank
of Cadet Warrant Officer. |
