When young people are deciding to
join cadets they have many questions to ask. Below
are some of the questions known for cadets to ask when
they are making their minds up.
• To join the ATC you need to
be between the ages of 13 and 18. This is not a flexible
rule and where necessary you may be required to provide
proof of age and address.
• Young
people from all religions and nationalities are welcome
to join.
• It
is not a requirement for you to join any of the armed
services during or after your cadet career.
• Mostly
the Squadron is recruiting new people all the time.
At the moment the squadron is open on Mondays and Wednesdays
between 19:15 and 21:30.
• So
if you wish to join please register your interest (right).
We will quickly reply with a joining time and date
for you.
• On
your first night an instructor will take you through
the recruiting process. This includes a tour of the
Squadron Facilities, a video showing all the different
activities in the Air Training Corps, a briefing on
what there is to achieve and an introduction on how
the squadron works.
• You
will be given one form to fill out at the squadron
that night and other forms to be completed and signed
by your parent or guardian and brought back on your
next night.
• The
Squadron expects you to attend every Monday and Wednesday
and on some weekend activities. However, the squadron
does recognise this is sometimes not possible for some
people and in these cases special permission can be
granted for a cadet to remain at the squadron and attend
to a different pattern. This will however limit your
progress through training.
• You
will be required to comply with all our rules and regulations.
• The
Squadron will expect to see an interest from you throughout
your training.
• On joining you are given four
weeks to decide if you are going to stay. After that
you will need to pay a £15.00 joining fee which
will include your first 4 weeks subscriptions and a free
loan of a uniform (excluding shoes).
• You will then be required
to pay subscriptions of £4.00 per month. Subscriptions
pay for the cadets insurance, all flying and gliding,
sports and other activities (including transport).
• Other activities will be charged
at very reasonable rates. An average weekend will cost
just £10.00 and a week will cost between £30.00
and £50.00. These fees will normally include food,
transport and accommodation.
• The
Squadron always tries to get the best deal for the
cadets. All of the activities are charged at cost price.

To get into the building you need to go the the
rear entrance on Rowan Road. There you will find a large
metal gate with Air Cadets written on it, to the left
